I’m Marilyn Martin and I’m a National Board Certified, Licensed Professional Counselor with a private practice in Royal Oak, Michigan. I have experience treating individuals, couples, adolescents, and families.
I specialize in depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem and anger issues, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual trauma, and life coaching. I use an integrated theoretical approach that includes (but not limited to), Cognitive Behavior and Existential Therapy.
I use an empathetic and individualized approach to help my clients gain better insight into their thoughts, feeling, and behaviors. I strive to honor and respect the uniqueness of each individual I treat.
I begin therapy by identifying and clearly understanding the client’s goals and establishing a treatment plan based on those individualized goals.
In my therapeutic approach, I seek to alleviate psychological suffering by promoting positive self-esteem, lessening worry and anxiety, assist clients to engage in healthy behaviors, and ultimately increasing the client’s sense of purpose in their life.
As your therapist, I will support you by providing clarity to your thoughts and feelings and help you to understand your behaviors. During the sessions, I will encourage my clients to use reflection and explorations of their thoughts and feelings in order to better understand the root of their problems, how it impacts their lives, and what they can do to improve their lives as a whole. My sessions are characterized by honesty, empathy, comfort and a sense of collaboration between myself and my client.
