Shades of Resilience Counseling, PLLC is a private mental health counseling practice that offers strength-based, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive individual therapy, group therapy, and mindfulness meditation practice workshops.

We strive to provide a holding space for BIPOC communities, particularly Black and African-Americans to feel empowered to learn new coping skills and develop strategies necessary to engage in meaningful work, create healthy relationships, and live more fulfilling lives.

Q What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?

Counseling offers a variety of benefits but there are no guarantees. During your phone consultation and initial therapy appointment, it will be important for us to fully explore your expectations and goals. Part of my job is to help you identify what is possible and not possible to achieve in therapy. I will also help you define specific goals and outcomes.

Q What's telemental health counseling?

Telemental Health counseling involves the provision of mental health services and support
via secure electronic means of communication, such as phone, and video conferencing.

Q What is a typical therapy appointment?

Appointments are usually for 50 minutes. The sessions are held (virtually) once or twice a week which depends on your special situation and therapy goals.

Q What will we do in therapy?

My role is to assist you with making the life changes that you choose to make.  I am here to support you as we do this challenging work together.  My therapeutic approach involves some skills training, some work outside of therapy, and a lot of interactive dialogue.

Q How frequently will I visit you?

During our initial consultation, we'll discuss the schedule that best fits your needs. Typically, we'll set up a specific date and time to meet once or twice a week. You should attend therapy regularly, come on time, and cancel in only urgent cases to achieve the full benefits of therapy

Q Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance. My fees are private pay and due at the time of service.  However, there are a few really great benefits to paying privately. For example:

Privacy: The insurance company wouldn't have access to sensitive information in your record; reduces potential harm to certain careers.

Freedom of choice: The insurance company can't dictate your care; you get to decide the type of care that is best for you.

High deductibles: Many plans have high deductibles. Benefits usually kick in after you hit that deductible; may actually save money by paying out-of-pocket.

Q What payment methods do you accept?

I require a valid credit or debit card be added to your file before your initial session using your secure client portal. NOTE: Your card will not be charged. A "Credit Card Authorization” form must be signed. Your card will be charged at the time of the session.

Q Do you offer in-person appointments?

No. All therapy appointments are only being offered virtually at this time.

The great benefit of Telehealth is that it allows us to connect anywhere with secure and convenient appointments that save you time and hassle. There’s no need to deal with traffic when you can schedule and attend your appointments directly from a laptop or mobile device.
